Entering the game 81 short of 10,000, with this achievement the run machine added another feather to his illustrious cap. Smashing tons from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma propelled India to victory with no less than 7.5 overs to spare. On Wednesday, Kohli became the 13th batsman to reach the milestone.

Virat Kohli Wednesday became the fastest to score 10,000 runs in One-day Internationals, rewriting, fittingly enough, the iconic Sachin Tendulkar's record and compounding the cricket community's conundrum to find the right superlatives for his phenomenal batting.

Tendulkar, who had been breaking records at will during his 25-year-long worldwide career, reached to the landmark in 259 innings. However, none had managed to collect 10,000 runs faster than Tendulkar.

Trump concedes Khashoggi likely dead, threatens consequences
The network said it was still pursuing an interview with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The Saudi consul, Mohammed al-Otaibi, abruptly left Istanbul for Riyadh on Tuesday.

Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar achieved the feat in 259 innings while Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting needed 263 and 266 innings respectively.

Kohli has been in sublime form across formats this year and has scored over 900 runs in ODIs alone.

India opted to bat first in the second ODI against West Indies in Visakhapatnam.

Kohli took a single off Nurse to eclipse the 10,000-run mark, before going on to score a hundred with a boundary off Marlon Samuels.

He leaked runs in the first game of the ongoing series, but considering his all-round abilities, he is expected to get a longer run. Now, he also holds the record of scoring 1,000 ODI runs in a calendar year in fewest innings (11) bettering his own record of 2012 (15 innings). India, who lead the five-match series 1-0, made just one change from their opening win on Sunday with spinner Kuldeep Yadav coming in for Khaleel Ahmed.

Cut to October 2018, Virat Kohli has not just become the 13th cricketer to score 10,000 ODI runs but he has scored them faster than anyone else, including Tendulkar.
