As many as 22 lots will be up for auction between October 31 and November 8 in an online Christie's auction known as "On the Shoulders of Giants".

Perhaps the most sought-after artifact in the auction will be one of five existing copies of Hawking's 1965 Cambridge University Ph.D. thesis, " Properties of Expanding Universes", which carries an estimated price of £100,000 to £150,000 ($130,000 to $195,000).

Auctioneer Christie's announced the online sale on Monday as part of a larger auction featuring scientific papers by Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, and Isaac Newton, the Associated Press reported. Hawking used a wheelchair during his time at Cambridge and for most of his life, after he was diagnosed with ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

"The lots selected for sale highlight Professor Hawking's remarkable achievements in science alongside his unique personality and inspirational life story", Thomas Venning, Head of the Books and Manuscripts department, said in a statement.

He was diagnosed with motor neuron disease at 21 in 1963, and was given two years to live. The scientist lived decades beyond the prognosis, and he died in March at age 76.

Hawking's doctoral thesis, wheelchair, and 20 other items will be featured at an upcoming auction.

His illness left him wheelchair-bound and dependent on a computerised voice system for communication.

In the hours since the show aired, Kelly has apologized to her colleagues via an internal email, according to THR . Another commenter stated: "We stopped listening to this white woman's opinions before she even had one.

The proceeds from the auction of the chair will benefit the The Stephen Hawking Foundation, which advocates for the rights of people with disabilities, and The Motor Neurone Disease Association. In 1977, for example, Prince Charles reportedly got his toes crushed beneath Hawking's wheelchair, and the scientist joked that he regretfully did not get a chance to run over Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's feet as well.

This particular chair is the last one used by Hawking while he still had control of his hands and before needing more sophisticated technology.

"It was in 1983 that Hawking first suggested the idea of a popular work on cosmology, which would explain modern physics and astronomy in non-specialist terms to a popular readership", Christie's states.

Daughter Lucy Hawking has noted that, through the auction, fans of the scientist will get the chance to become owners of the relics, reminding about the unusual life of a theoretical physicist.
