"First, to protect Android from outside tampering, we've integrated Titan M into Verified Boot, our secure boot process". With it, Android Security Team member Xiaowen Xin explains in the post, Google took the best features from the Titan chip used in the company's Google Cloud data centers and tailored them for mobile. It secures the bootloader and stores the last safe known version of Android.

As mentioned in the presentation, iFixit identified the Pixel Visual Core to be the same as the one found in its predecessors, while Google has bolstered safety with its Titan M Security chip.

Google uses the Titan M chip in their "Verified Boot", a secure boot process that Google first started playing with in Android 4.4, but implemented as Android Verified Boot a year ago in Android Oreo. Titan M will also prevent bad actors from attempting to unlock the bootloader.

The most notable piece of information that seemingly flew under the radar amidst the plethora of leaks, is that Google is no longer working with LG to produce its displays.

The chip isn't just for Google though, with the Titan M chip able to "protect third-party apps and secure sensitive transactions" thanks to the new StrongBox KeyStore APIs in Android 9. It will work with apps that support e-voting and things like P2P money transfers to authenticate transactions.
