"She was returning to her university apartment from her night class and talking to me on the phone".

Police in Salt Lake City, Utah said a man accused of shooting and killing a student at the university Monday night, has been found dead.

It wasn't until later that her parents would learn their daughter had been shot and killed on campus about 9 p.m.

Several students heard gunshots, and the campus was put on lockdown with students instructed to shelter-in-place. It was only after another woman picked up the phone that Lauren's mother learned that all of her belongings had been strewn across the ground.

"Suddenly, I heard her yell, 'No, no, no!'" the statement reads.

Lauren McCluskey had dated Rowland for about a month then ended the relationship on October 9 when she learned he had lied about his age, name and criminal history, Jill McCluskey said in a statement.
