Trump's Threats Over Missing Journo Send Saudi Stock Market Into Record Plunge

Khashoggi has been missing ever since cameras captured him going inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

He said the government of Saudi Arabia is "committed to its principles, rules and traditions and is in compliance with worldwide laws and conventions".

Trump said in a CBS interview on Saturday that there would be "severe punishment" for Saudi Arabia if it turns out that Khashoggi was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Trump said the United States competed against China, Russia and other countries for the Saudi contracts and winning it was "a tremendous order for our companies".

Saudi Arabia says Khashoggi left the consulate.

On Tuesday, the Turkish foreign ministry said the Saudi consulate in Istanbul would be searched as part of the investigation. The journalist was last seen there on October 2.

"We're being very tough and we have investigators over there and we're working with Turkey and Saudi Arabia".

Hatice Cengiz, the fiancée to the Saudi journalist who has been missing for almost two weeks, has written an obituary-style op-ed on Jamal Khashoggi, which was published Saturday by the New York Times.

"There's something, you'll be surprised to hear me say that, there's something really bad and disgusting about that if that was the case. He told me to alert the Turkish authorities if I did not hear from him soon". "If they don't buy it from us, they're going to buy it from Russian Federation or".

With the mystery of his fate unresolved 11 days after he walked into the consulate and failed to reappear, a pro-government Turkish daily said Khashoggi had recorded his own interrogation inside the mission on an Apple Watch.

Reports suggest an assault and struggle took place in the consulate after Mr Khashoggi entered the building to get some documents.

Turkish officials have not answered queries from The Associated Press about Khashoggi's Apple Watch.

Apart from a few songs from a handful of industrious England fans who watched the action from the top of a nearby hill, the game was played in silence.

"Yes", Trump said in the interview, which was conducted on Thursday, when asked if Khashoggi was murdered by Saudi Arabia.

The fiancee of the missing Saudi journalist on Friday urged U.S. President Donald Trump to use his clout to find out what happened to her partner.

Trump promised Friday to personally call Saudi Arabia's King Salman soon about "the awful situation in Turkey".

Khashoggi, who was considered close to the Saudi royal family, had become a critic of the current government and Prince Mohammed, the 33-year-old heir apparent who has shown little tolerance for criticism. Let's say, they did.

CNN could not independently verify the Sabah report and was seeking comment from both Saudi and Turkish officials.

Major US defence contractors have expressed concern to the Trump administration that US politicians angered by Khashoggi's disappearance will block further arms deals with Riyadh.
