Man dies from injuries suffered in shark attack off Cape Cod

After a 26-year-old Revere man's death Saturday at Newcomb Hollow Beach from what is believed to be a shark bite, public officials expressed sadness and caution as warm days continue on beaches that now have no lifeguards.

Michael Hurley said a man in his mid-20s was pronounced dead from his injuries following the attack at Newcomb Hollow Beach, the AP reported.

The US National Park Service said it closed beaches for at least an hour about 25 times this year, which is double the annual average.

A witness of the attack told the Providence Journal he saw "a giant eruption of water - 15 feet-wide".

A 61-year-old man was severely injured on August 15 after fighting off a shark about 4 miles away from Saturday's attack.

"I saw a worst nightmare unfold here", Booth said. He's now recovering in a Boston hospital.

However, shark sightings around the Cape have reportedly been more frequent this year, leading to several beach closings.
