Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho turned on the media once more on Friday as he launched a detailed defence of his use of England worldwide striker Marcus Rashford.

Rashford scored two goals in two games during the worldwide break, opening the scoring in a 2-1 defeat to Spain and scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Switzerland.

Rashford is not alone when it comes to young English players struggling to get regular opportunities in the Premier League.

'So the people who are speaking about these minutes are a bit confused, ' he said.

Newcastle United forward Salomon Rondon and defender DeAndre Yedlin could be rested after their late return from worldwide duty. Emery insists he has had no talks about Gazidis leaving.

'He's Manchester United player Marcus Rashford with an incredible number of minutes played at the highest level.

At just 18 years and 141 days, he became the youngest scorer for United in European competition and landmarks and records tumbled after that: scoring on his debut in the Premier League, the Champions League and League Cup, and in his first appearances for the England Under-21s and the England senior team - the youngest player to achieve that.

"Media is very important and is very important Manchester United supporters know the truth, that's why I'm going so specific about these numbers".

"When he's mad, you know he is mad. That's what we are doing here".

That goal came after Rashford scored the opener in England's 2-1 loss to Spain in a UEFA Nations League game on Saturday.

"Speaking about Marcus, I think I can expect that Sunday I'm going to be highly criticised for not playing him", he said.

There is also competition with England, although the manager believes he can fit Rashford, Kane and Raheem Sterling into the same XI.

Rashford's success up front under Southgate has led to many pondering whether the 20-year-old would be better off finding a club where he would be guaranteed to start every week. Lingard, 25, has been involved for 5,070 minutes.

With his pace, movement and fearlessness, Rashford can be a nightmare for opponents when he plays on the shoulder of the last defender.

Carragher suggested after England's 1-0 win over Switzerland on Tuesday that Rashford may have to leave Old Trafford to play more regularly and fulfil his potential and Mourinho, clearly, was not impressed.
