Yesterday Apple announced the iPhone XR, a lower-cost new iPhone that sits beneath the American maker's new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max flagships. Design-wise TechRadar's Gareth Beavis says that next to the iPhone XS the new iPhone XR is "not quite as attractive", pointing out its thicker bezels and drawing your attention to the fact that its edges aren't made out of the same premium-feeling materials. In Russia, for example, you could snag a 64GB iPhone XS for $1,292, slightly below the $1,380 iPhone X launch price that same Russian customer would have paid. The iPhone XS (pronounced "ten ess") and XS Max are the updated version of last year's iPhone X. The XS has a 5.8-inch OLED display, while the XS Max has a 6.5-inch display.
It's surprising that Apple discontinued the iPhone SE, since it's only a 2-year-old phone, and Apple just gave it an upgrade last year. Why pay $US999 for the incredible screen on the iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max when you could effectively buy the same phone for $US100 less? Beavis believes this is where most of the cost saving has been generated for the model. Both factors that should conserve energy in comparison.
