The air raid hit at the entrance to Hodeida's main al-Thawra hospital, one of the busiest medical facilities in conflict-wracked Yemen.

"Contrary to initial media reports and Houthi claims that attributed responsibility to coalition air strikes, the available evidence clearly demonstrates that the damage resulted from mortar shells fired from an area close to the impact sites", he told the UAE state news agency, Wam.

The attack was the latest in a series of airstrikes launched by the coalition against Houthi targets in Yemen.

Al-Maliki said the coalition had always sought to find a political solution, but that the Houthis continued aggression had hindered this.

It is not yet clear whether the parties involved-President Hadi's lawful government, backed by a Saudi-led worldwide coalition, and the Houthi rebels-will take part in the negotiations or not, or in what context they will take place.
