TOWN'S Premier League season got off to a losing start against Chelsea.

Like several clubs who had players competing at the World Cup, Spurs have had to cope without several key performers during pre-season and Pochettino was delighted with the approach his players had taken.

As well as brilliantly setting up the third goal of the afternoon for Pedro, the winger also embarked on a mazy run that took five Huddersfield players to stop him. They made Chelsea uncomfortable throughout the opening period, and new signing Terence Kongolo impressed at center-back.

Jorginho then whispered something to Hazard that caused the Belgian to burst out laughing.

While Sarri left smiling, Huddersfield manager David Wagner felt his side had shown encouraging signs despite the scoreline.

The ref needs to explain that to us because I don't understand why (it was not retaken)". We all know Thibault's quality, but Thibault's not a Chelsea player anymore.

Huddersfield had given as good as they got before going behind to N'Golo Kante's scuffed 34th-minute volley.

Kepa, the world's most expensive goalkeeper after his £72.1million move from Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, had little to do on his debut as Chelsea cruised to a 3-0 victory in Maurizio Sarri's first game in charge.

I don't know if we can play the same way in England.

"I've seen the spirit, attitude and togetherness we need for our season".

He has deemed the Frenchman to be surplus to requirements, despite a desire from Bakayoko to remain on Chelsea's books and try and play his way into form.

Discussing his arrivals, the manager said: "The club was willing and we took a great goalkeeper, very young but he can become a great goalkeeper".

Thibaut Courtois would never have forced through a transfer from Chelsea to Real Madrid if his children had lived in London, his agent said.

"We're happy because to be honest our pre-season games were not that good", Rudiger said.

It was telling that Chelsea's first two goals came from their only two shots on target in the first half, and that one of those was a penalty, awarded for Christopher Schindler's foul on Marcos Alonso after a nice flick from Ross Barkley.

Eden Hazard also produced a lively cameo after coming on as a 76th-minute substitute, creating Chelsea's third goal, rounding off a near flawless start to life in English football for Sarri, who had predicted that his team would encounter problems with results and performances in the first half of the season. I had a lot of time to take care of me past year, so now I'm 100 per cent.
