Honda adds Sport trim, safety tech to 2019 Civic Sedan and Coupe

This aside, there are expected to be no changes to the Civic's interior.

The Honda Sensing suite of active safety tech and some updated headlights should help the 2019 Civic score higher in safety tests from the IIHS. Cumulative sales of the current generation Civic will surpass one million units this year.

Honda has not yet released pricing information on the 2019 Civic, but the addition of Honda Sensing to every trim could see the price creep up slightly. The front of the vehicle was tweaked to accentuate the low and wide stance and sporty looks.

Honda is hoping a facelift of its Civic sedan and coupe for the 2019 model year will help carry the auto to its 21st straight year as Canada's best-selling passenger vehicle.

There's also a redesigned lower bumper, which includes a full-width front splitter, and chromed C-shaped surround for the fog light pods.

The "Sport" trim, meanwhile, gives the sedan a cheeky rear spoiler as well as what Honda calls a "splitter-style" rear lower bumper incorporating a chrome polygonal exhaust finisher.

In particular, neither the Google Assistant, a digital concierge, nor the Google Home smart speaker will be particularly useful. Warnings when you're about to turn Location History off via Android and iPhone device settings are more hard to interpret.

On the insides, Honda has updated the infotainment system and gets more safety features. This package includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control. Since its introduction, the 10th-generation Civic has amassed dozens of major industry awards and accolades including the 2016 North American Car of the Year award, 2017 Kelley Blue Book Overall Best Buy of the Year, 2018 Car and Driver 10Best and 2018 AUTOMOBILE All-Stars award.

I was always surprised that Honda had a Sport trim for the Fit but not the Civic.

Under the hood, the Civic Sport is offered with a 2.0-liter four cylinder engine and is available with either a continously variable transmission (CVT) or a 6-speed manual transmission.
