Containment grows for California wildfire

More than 20,000 people are forced from their homes in Southern California by a unsafe arson wildfire that intensified Thursday night.

"This place is going to burn", Forrest Clark, 51, allegedly texted a volunteer fire chief two weeks before an inferno enveloped Orange County, burning almost 20,000 acres and destroying 12 homes. Two weeks ago, he came to Milligan's home to return items he "borrowed" from the fire department, the volunteer fire chief said.

Last September, smoke from other deadly and destructive California wildfires floated across the USA via the jet stream.

Meanwhile north of San Francisco, the Mendocino Complex - the largest recorded fire in California history - is 60 percent contained.

Forrest Clark, 51, was supposed to be in court on Thursday, but he refused to go.

But the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says Thursday it will still take several weeks to fully surround the massive wildfire in Northern California because it's burning in steep terrain that's hard to reach.

Since it erupted Monday afternoon, the blaze has destroyed a dozen cabins in the Holy Jim Canyon area of the Cleveland National Forest and advanced into Riverside County.
