Conor McGregor to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in Las Vegas

Conor McGregor will return to mixed martial arts on October 6 in Las Vegas for a title bout against UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor, 30, hasn't set foot inside the Octagon since claiming the lightweight title 20 months ago in the main event of UFC 205, a card where he became the promotion's first simultaneous two-weight world champion.

Around this time previous year, McGregor was in Los Angeles alongside Floyd Mayweather at a massive press event.

Nurmagomedov's last fight was held on April 7, defeating in the title fight American realtor al Iaquinta.

Nurmagomedov was the intended target of McGregor's wrath after a previous spat between the fighters' camps.

McGregor will avoid jail time and instead serve five days of community service and attent anger management classes.

McGregor himself has said recently that he would prefer to fight in Madison Square Gardens again, but conceded that he believed his next fight would be in Las Vegas.

McGregor first laid the groundwork for his fight against Nurmagomedov back in April when he attacked a bus full of UFC fighters, including the Lightweight champ, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

White didn't disclose terms of the deal that was reached.
