Ali, 28, and his friend Ryan Hale, 27, are also standing trial accused of affray during the incident.
The prosecution said Stokes told police he intervened with Ali and Hale because he overheard "nasty homophobic language", then told police he acted in self-defence when he thought he was about to be hit with a bottle.
Footage from her body camera, played to the jury, showed she said to Stokes: "A guy over there was covered in blood and I've been told you punched him".
Stokes claims that, not long after leaving the Mbargo nightclub in the early hours of the morning on September 25, a group of four men came to his attention as they appeared to be engaged in an argument. Stokes denies taunting them, telling police they "thanked me for preventing them from being beaten up".
