Travis Pastrana is no stranger to death-defying stunts, and on Sunday he did the legacy of Evel Knievel proud with three impressive jumps in Las Vegas, including landing one of Knievel's most infamous failures.

The event took place in Las Vegas Sunday and was produced and aired live by The History Channel.

The first of the three stunts will see Pastrana attempt to replicate Knievel's 1973 jump over 50 crushed cars across a span of 120 feet at the L.A. Coliseum.

Tropical Storm Chris to bring showers
It was centered 60 miles (95 kilometers) east of Martinique and was racing west-northwestward at 26 mph (43 kph). The cyclone has barely moved today, and no significant motion is expected during the next day or so.

The third and final jump was reenacting Knievel's legendary attempt to jump the Caesar's Palace fountain.

"Man it's just such an honor to live a day in Evel's footsteps", Pastrana said in an interview after the jump.

Dressed in a red, white and blue starred firesuit and cape that paid homage to Knievel's trademark outfit, Pastrana began the night by jumping 52 crushed cars, surpassing Knievel's mark of 50 cars. "I'm not done yet, but this was definitely the coolest thing I've ever been able to do".

Starbucks replacing plastic straws with new drinking lid
McDonald's said earlier this year that it would stop using plastic straws at all of its stores in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Straws add up to about 2,000 tons of the almost 9 million tons of plastic waste that ends up in the water each year.

And, in the end, Pastrana did what any of us would have done if we had just completed a deadly 149-foot jump over a water fountain on a 340 pound bike.

"This is all about Evel, and the coolest thing about this whole thing, all of Evel's family is out here", said Pastrana.

Then, Pastrana jumped 16 Greyhound buses (a record 193 feet), breaking the 14 buses that Knievel jumped during his career in 1975 (although Knievel crashed while jumping 13 buses at London's Wembley Stadium five months earlier in 1975).

Woods and Mickelson may be in talks over £7.5 million exhibition match
Mickelson playfully hinted at such a match when he and Woods were in the same group at The Players Championship. Both have struggled a bit in the past few years, but remain big draws for fans.

After finishing with a few burnouts, Pastrana celebrated his triplicating feat by diving into the fountain. And to replicate the kind of bikes his predecessor jumped, Pastrana will do it on an Indian Scout FTR750 - not one of the much lighter motorcross dirt bikes typically ridden in the X Games events.
