It says that more than 200,000 companies are using it now, compared to 70,000 Slack (paid) users.

According to Microsoft, more than 200,000 businesses across 181 markets have been collaborating inside Teams since its launch a year ago.

Unlike Slack, the free version of Microsoft Teams will not limit the amount of messages you can send, or restrict the app's search function. The free version also includes built-in audio and video calling for groups, and unlimited app integrations for adding apps to Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft's comparison table deliberately doubles down of features like the number of searchable messages that it says will be unlimited, availability for 40 languages, unlimited app integrations and 10GB of storage and native audio and video. Teams will allow users to communicate and collaborate with anyone inside or outside the organization.

Kate Middleton returns to Wimbledon with Prince William for Men's Singles final
Instead, Catherine stepped out Saturday with new sister-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex , also known as Meghan Markle . Meanwhile, good friend Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton offered a listening ear.

And Microsoft hopes to do just that, or at least grow the popularity of its lesser known offering: Teams.

In fact, the current free Teams package is offering far more than the Slack free tier. If you want to go beyond those limits, you have to pony up for Office 365 at a per-user cost of either $5/month or $12.50/month, though that price includes the whole Office suite of apps and services, too.

The application uses data from the Microsoft Graph, a set of APIs that deliver contextual data based on employee information and content stored across Microsoft's business products, to help users identify collaboration and productivity-enhancing opportunities.

Microsoft has been competing with Slack since introducing Teams in early 2017. Slack has offered a free version since it first arrived on the scene, and looking at Slack's dominance today, it seems like it was a good move.

Microsoft introduced Teams in March past year, making it available as part of Office 365 to new and existing customers, in response to popular collaboration tools from the likes of Slack, Atlassian and Facebook. "Whether you're a freelancer, a small business owner, or part of a team inside a large organization, you can start using Teams today".
