Liverpool transfer news: Liverpool begin talks with Stoke City over Xehrdan Shaqiri transfer

Liverpool are closing in on a transfer swoop for Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri, who has also been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.

Liverpool have already bolstered their midfield options this summer with Naby Keita and Fabinho, for £52.75m from Red Bull Leipzig and £43.7m from Monaco respectively, and had lined up a £53m move for Nabil Fekir until a medical raised concerns. Liverpool have been trying to reignite a deal despite a hands-off warning issued before the World Cup.

And at £12m he represents a huge bargain.

In June, Shaqiri was reported as saying he wanted to leave Stoke and sign for a Premier League club.

He is now on holiday after representing Switzerland at the World Cup, helping them to the last 16 where they were beaten by Sweden. I would love to stay in England but I don't want to rule anything out.

The arrival of "Der Kraftwürfel" (the Powercube) would provide welcome depth for the Liverpool attack for the upcoming season, with the Reds heavily reliant upon the attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in their 2017/18 campaign.

Shaqiri's career makes for impressive reading despite the recent relegation with Stoke, with stints at Bayern Munich and Inter Milan displaying the huge potential the 5'7 winger possessed earlier in his playing days.

Liverpool are apparently keen for the youngster to go out on loan after he signed a new five-year deal this week, but whether a move actually materialises remains to be seen.
