Braden Varney, a bulldozer operator with Cal Fire's Madera-Mariposa-Merced Uni, died while battling the fire on Saturday when his bulldozer reportedly rolled over.

Varney's body will be retrieved Monday at the earliest because it's in a "precarious location" and conditions were too unsafe over the weekend, Cal Fire Deputy Chief Scott McLean said.

Crews are fighting the Hendrix Fire, burning in the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest 10 miles south of Ashland, and the Gravel fire, burning near Prospect, Oregon.

The Hendrix Fire, 400 acres in size as of Tuesday evening, is among the largest of the active fires. Braden Varney, 36, was a second generation firefighter, state fire officials told CBS Sacramento.
