Donald Trump nominates Brett Kavanaugh to US Supreme Court position

His nomination to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy was announced by Trump from the White House on Monday night, in an announcement that saw the president praise Kavanaugh's "impeccable credentials, unsurpassed qualifications, and a proven commitment to equal justice under the law", The Washington Post reported.

"Most notably he ruled the CFPB's structure was unconstitutional in 2016 - a position cheered on by Wall Street and conservative activists but soundly rejected by his colleagues on the D.C. Circuit Court who reversed his decision".

During a hearing on his nomination to the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, Kavanaugh declined to give his personal opinion on Roe v Wade, saying only that he would uphold the Supreme Court's current decision on the case.

He also served on President George W. Bush's legal team during the contentious Florida recount following the 2000 presidential election.

"FreedomWorks calls upon Majority Leader McConnell to act swiftly and ensure Kavanaugh is confirmed on the Senate floor". "I look forward to meeting with Judge Kavanaugh during the confirmation process". And-though he claimed to technically live by the creed of his Jesuit high school, "Men for others"-he appeared to also be subtly attempting to reassure Americans that he's not necessarily intent on overturning precedents like Roe v. Wade, which ensures access to abortion". Since 2006, he has been a judge on the federal appeals court in Washington.

It has been suggested the Blues could even go over €55m and closer to €60m as they look to capture the midfielder. Conte, who is now into the final year of his contract, also spent much of the weekend at Chelsea's base.

Last night he confirmed Brett Kavanaugh as his choice for the court in a move that has anxious liberals and womens' groups. Two of Trump's closest advisers on the issue - Federalist Society vice president Leonard Leo and White House counsel Don McGahn - were both reportedly behind picking Kavanaugh. He has embraced an unfettered view of executive power, supreme over strictures that may protect the government from itself, if not wholly from any meaningful judicial review.

Kavanaugh already has checked virtually every box in the conservative legal establishment at only 53 years old. Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, to oppose any nominee who threatens Roe v. Wade.

Kavanaugh's long record includes his 12 years as a judge with almost 300 written opinions, a multitude of scholarly articles, a paperwork trail from his time in the Bush White House, and thousands of documents from when he served on the Starr investigation.

Kimmel, 50, returned from vacation this week and was quick to address the president's claims, after he told people: "He [Kimmel] would stand outside of the sidewalk waiting for me".

In addition to abortion, the court could shift to the right on the death penalty, racial discrimination, environmental law and gay rights, all areas where Kennedy at least sometimes joined the court's liberal wing.

Schumer pledged to use all the weapons in his arsenal to stop Kavanaugh from joining the Supreme Court.

Kavanaugh also wrote a law review article in 2009, arguing that presidents should be shielded from criminal investigations and civil lawsuits while in office.

Walker said Kennedy's replacement will be much more conservative, foreshadowing big changes in issues including affirmative action, school prayer and guns.

Trump is moving the Supreme Court further to the right. "A judge must interpret the Constitution as written".
