Initiated with a proposition by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, June 21 was proclaimed International Yoga Day by the United Nations on December 11, 2014.

Stressing on India's role in promoting the practice, he added, "The gems of India's unique heritage such as yoga will be respected by the world at large only when we ourselves respect our culture and traditions, and take part in our legacy and heritage".

He said the way to lead a calm, creative and content life was yoga.

Addressing the gathering at the Forest Research Institute (FRI), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Yoga has emerged as the biggest unifying force in the world". Several union ministers are expected to join in similar events across the country.

Before leaving Beijing on his latest visit this week, Kim toured an agricultural technology park and a rail traffic control center.

Yoga includes stretching and bending of body besides doing breathing exercises aimed at transforming body and mind.

"It's a very edifying experience I would say for the kind of participation we're seeing this year".

"Yoga is India's strongest message to the world".

"As the Sun is for all, the Moon is for all, rivers are for all, in the same way yoga is for all", he said.
