The California Department of Public Health/West Nile virus program notified the County of Santa Cruz on Thursday of the summer's first find of a West Nile virus positive dead bird in Santa Cruz County. "The DuPage County Health Department monitors West Nile virus (WNV) activity weekly by collecting and testing mosquitoes in 30 traps located throughout the county", public information officer Don Bolger said in an email. Fix or replace screens that have tears or other openings.

That's important as the region deals with the West Nile virus.

Officials advised residents to also inspect their yards for any standing water sources, which can serve as mosquito breeding sites.
