A fastfood restaurant was shut down by the health department due to a "rat infestation", after mobile phone footage caught rodents scampering through a bag of burger buns.

The take-away restaurant was forced to temporarily close its doors the following day, after health investigators found rodent droppings inside the burger and chicken rolls.

Inspectors also found part of the ceiling to be leaking, and flies coming out of a drain. "Mouse droppings were observed on the floor near the ice machine, water heater, under storage, near syrup soda boxes and behind fryers", a portion of the report read. In a statement to 6abc Action News, Burger King Media Relations said, "Food safety and hygiene is always a top priority for us". We have already contacted the Franchisee, who independently owns and operates the location, to investigate this matter and ensure they take the appropriate measures.
