US, Mexico and Canada to host 2026 World Cup as Morocco lose out

PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported how Morocco on Wednesday at the Expocentre in Moscow lost out 65-134 to the joint bid of the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico.

Edmontonian Alphonso Davies, 17, was the first to speak in the United Bid's final presentation to the FIFA Congress prior to the vote.

"Hosting the 2026 FIFA World CupTM is a rare and important moment to demonstrate that we are all truly united through sport", said Carlos Cordeiro, President of U.S. Soccer and Co‐Chair of the United Bid. "Football today is the only victor".

There's no guarantee Canada will have a team at the 2026 World Cup, the first time it will be hosted by more than one country.

It was quickly dubbed the "NAFTA World Cup" on social media, but soccer fans and observers could not help seeing Wednesday's news that the United States, Mexico and Canada will jointly host the 2026 World Cup through the lens of border walls, tariffs and Trump.

The joint bid had been the front-runner for the 48-team tournament from the moment a North American coalition was first mooted two years ago, and there have been spells when it has looked like the only credible candidate.

For a time Mr Saleh joined forces with the Houthis, but they turned on each other past year and the former president was killed. The early stages of Wednesday's offensive followed statements from UAE and Saudi officials that military action was necessary.

As it stands now, 60 games will be played in the United States, with Mexico and Canada hosting 10 each.

While Canada has never hosted-or even qualified for-the men's World Cup, it can count on its more experienced co-hosts and current NAFTA partners.

The North American bid projects US$14.3 billion in revenue compared to $7.2 billion for Morocco.

But don't forget you too can get involved in predicting the scorelines, along with a whole host of other things such as the Golden Boot victor and which nations will advance from each group.

Each U.S. city would host at least five matches.

In March, B.C. Premier John Horgan said he was not willing to write a "blank cheque" to have Vancouver host soccer matches for the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

Their position was weakened by the expectation that four U.S. territories at the centre of a voting row will not take part.

Each of the United Bid's 23 proposed stadiums are fully built, occupied, and operational, ensuring long‐ term use following the 2026 FIFA World CupTM.

Toronto's mayor noted that Canada had little chance of hosting the worldwide soccer tournament on its own, but will now reap the benefits resulting from its participation in the joint bid.

UN Says Assault on Yemeni Port Could Cost 250,000 Civilian Lives
Previous efforts to end the conflict, which according to the United Nations has killed more than 10,000 people, have failed. "During the long study and calculation, we found that as many as 250 000 people lost everything they had - even my life".
