Last Monday evening, I attended the Waterloo Board of Education meeting to hear about the bullying controversy as well as gather information about the 10 candidates running for the school board. It will be presented to the school board at the June 18 meeting for a final review and vote, Swailes said. Two newcomers are running for a single board seat.

Whitney Point Central School District: Voters approved the school budget with 172 voting yes and 82 voting no. For upcoming fiscal year 2019, the school division is slated to receive $30.49 million of Winchester's $93.65 million budget, or 32.6 percent.

The Salina Free Library proposition passed with 92 yes votes, and the $1.5 million bus proposition passed with 1,587 votes.

In addition, there are three candidates for three available Board of Education seats.

Today, voters in 12 school districts in Greene and Columbia counties go to the polls to approve or reject budget proposals and elect candidates to their boards of education.

The election Tuesday is from noon-8 p.m.at the middle school, in Room 111.

Peggy Wilkins Chavis was the lone incumbent on the two boards to lose, a fate that was sealed when she was among The Six board members who ambushed Superintendent Tommy Lowry in January 2017.

Speakers at an open forum included Kari Dugan, a member of the District Wide Davenport PTO.

She is recommending the Board transfer $135,000 of the surplus Measure K money that would have been spent at the high school to the Measure WW account that is underwriting the play field construction at Las Juntas.

Ronald White, Lillian Tyree-Johnson and Douglass DeGroot are all seeking to continue serving on the Bridgehampton School Board.

School Board member Erica Truban also struggled to understand City Council's justification for the guideline. A total of 540 yes votes were needed to pass the budget.

While smaller than proposed by the school board, the $110.6 million budget represents a $4.9 million, or 4.6 percent, spending increase from the current year and would result in a 5 percent increase in the school portion of the tax rate.

California first U.S. state to require solar on new homes

Voters also approved a transportation proposition to purchase two passengers vans at a price not to exceed $49,900 with 338 votes in favor and 141 votes against.
