Last Man Standing was dropped by ABC after six seasons

Fox snatched up its competitor's recently-canceled Tim Allen sitcom "Last Man Standing", and because of the staggering success of the Disney-owned broadcaster's "Roseanne" revival.

It performed best in our Sunday night lineup. "(But) I think everyone took a good, hard look at the performance of 'Roseanne.' It certainly did remind us we have a huge, iconic comedy star in our Fox family in Tim Allen". And then later on in the conversation: Why'd you rescue Last Man Standing? Yet as it turns out - and likely to the surprise of few - FOX was inspired to make their (somewhat controversial) decision after watching ABC's recent windfall with reviving Roseanne.

Walden said the opportunity to revive "Last Man Standing" was a no-brainer.

For all of the talk and headlines about this renewal, Last Man Standing will be premiering during the dreaded Friday night slot.

"Once we made the decision (about Friday) it limited the opportunities we had to schedule "Brooklyn, ' " Walden said". "We tried to move "Last Man Standing" over a year ago when ABC decided not to move forward". It's a really amusing show.

Still, Walden stressed that the success of "Roseanne" wasn't the sole factor for giving Allen, 64, the green light.

"Last Man Standing" faced a controversial end after ABC dropped it despite high ratings, which sparked speculation that it was because the show's lead was politically conservative.

"So I would say we were emboldened, I would say, by the performance of "Roseanne.' And that certainly made us think that this is a really good opportunity, that for broadcast viewers a beloved star in a really amusing multi-cam that has, again, a little bit easier entry point than a serialized comedy was a good idea. "Roseanne" certainly confirmed that". It was ABC's second most-watched comedy after "Modern Family". "It's the fans! I could not be more grateful for the fans who wrote petitions and kept up the passion and incredible support for the show".

"It's a amusing show and audiences responded to it", he explained simply, saying now is the time to bring it back, after a season of dormancy, Fox having added Thursday Night Football to its arsenal.

"I think one of the great things about broadcast television is that the fans get very connected to these stars, the character and the shows", he said. "Ultimately we felt like we didn't have the exact right place to schedule it this year". This brings back the Tim Allen vehicle after ABC cancelled the show in 2017 and CMT snubbed the series for revival purposes.

Whatever the case, FOX may also reap some benefits from the notoriety wielded by the conservative Tim Allen, as well as the fact that most Tim Allen characters are not-so-loosely based upon Tim Allen. "Well, just goes to show you - a lot can happen in a year".
