Preakness 2018 Draw and Odds: Justify Is Overwhelming Favorite

Here are the odds for the eight horses.

The second favorite in the Preakness came in second at this year's Kentucky Derby, running a strong race but ultimately falling short against Justify. These numbers are especially useful with first-time starters or horses who haven't run on an off or wet racetrack previously, and as you'll see below most of these Preakness runners should relish a wet track.

Post positions were drawn on Wednesday, with the morning line odds being set shortly after.

"That's putting some added pressure on us", Baffert said of the odds. He has four wins in five starts, including two in the Maryland Jockey Club circuit, so he will be bet like the home team.

In an interview with Cineuropa , the Danish director said he was pleased by the reaction and it made him "very relaxed". There's Something About Mary and The Outsiders actor Matt Dillon stars as the serial killer Jack.

But the massive chestnut, nearly 1,300 pounds of him, was not to be overshadowed once he emerged.

This year's Preakness features an eight-horse field for the first time since 2015, when American Pharoah won the second leg of the Triple Crown on his path to winning the first Triple Crown since Affirmed did it in 1978.

Justify is aiming to become only the 13th horse in victory to win all three races in the Triple Crown. It's the same size field American Pharoah beat three years ago, thin in part because Justify scared away many of his rivals.

Good Magic, victor of the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland in April for trainer Chad Brown, was made the 3-1 second choice for the 1 3/16 miles Preakness and drew post position No. 5.

Quip won the Tampa Bay Derby and was the runner-up in the Arkansas Derby in his last race. He was fine with how both drew. "We should be close early". If a horse or horses do go, Smith has the option of parking Justify just to their outside out of trouble, exactly like he did in the Derby. Justify galloped 1 1/2 miles at Churchill Downs last Thursday to test out the injury and appears to be good to go. Pundits expect Quip will also pose a challenge. There are a couple of other horses that should, if nothing else, be played in exotics. I like knowing that I have a chance to win. Tampa Bay Derby victor Quip drew the rail and is 12-1. No. 2 Lone Sailor is 15-1, No. 6 Tenfold and No. 8 Bravazo are 20-1 and No. 3 Sporting Chance and No. 4 Diamond King are 30-1 on the morning line.

As soon as Bob Baffert unloaded Justify from the van, the chestnut colt led the Hall of Fame trainer on several laps around the stakes barn. The thing that makes Justify so tough is that he has the ability to dictate the race and make his own luck.

"So far we have won the Derby and our focus is on the Preakness, not the Triple Crown", Walden said.
