Instagram will now let you re-share public posts to your Stories

When you tap on that, Instagram will lead you to your Stories.

Let's say you stumble upon an interesting post when you are scrolling through your Instagram feed. When you see a post in someone's story, you can tap it to check out the original post and see more from the person who created it. Instagram is also giving users the option of opting out from having their posts shared in the settings menu.

In fact, tagging friends through Instagram comments had become so common on the social network over the years, that it rolled out a way to send posts via Direct Messaging as an alternative.

Users looking to reshare other Instagram posts on their own profile have had to resort to unofficial methods, whether it be screenshotting the post and posting it on their own profile, or using third-party apps.

All posts shared to stories display the original poster's username.

That potential source of traffic may encourage some Instagram users to create posts specifically designed for this new sharing format, given it could increase their account's exposure to a wider audience. This feature will be coming soon via software update.
