Indore India's cleanest city, Mumbai best among state capitals

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday congratulated and praised the residents of Bhopal and Indore for once against making both the cities cleanest among others. The volume of garbage at the trenching ground in Indore has in fact reduced over the last two years. Mayor Alok Sharma, Municipal Commissioner Priyanka Das and corporators celebrated the feat as the city has been ranked second only to Indore in the cleanliness survey of 2018 which was conducted by the Union Government.

With only the first three rankings being announced, the officials hope that the city would stand at least among the top 5 cleanest cities in the country. It is a pan-India survey of all cities and states rating them on the basis of cleanliness and public feedback among other indicators.

As compared to 2017, where Swachh Survekshan was conducted in 434 cities, for this year, the scope was enhanced manifold. It is the top 3 cities that matter the most in every year's Swachh Survekshan survey.

"Indore and New Mumbai are doing well when it comes to waste segregation", she said, adding that next year "Nagpur will score better as the civic body is all set to start bio-mining and waste to energy projects". The city is far from being Swacch in the real sense of the term, the award notwithstanding.
