The UN Security Council is to meet again on Friday, at Russia's request, to try to defuse the standoff, as United States President Donald Trump appeared to back away from imminent action, days after warning Russian Federation to "get ready" for missile strikes.
As fears of a Russia confrontation with Western powers mount, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his "deep concerns" over the situation in Syria in a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Russia strongly condemns the attack on Syria where Russian servicemen are helping the legitimate Government in the war on terrorism", the Kremlin press office quoted Putin as saying. "We thank them both", Trump added.
The US, UK, and France said they launched airstrikes against Syrian chemical sites after obtaining evidence that a chemical weapon was used by President Bashar Assad's government.
Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has said a reported chemical attack in Syria was staged by foreign agents.
