Syria ally Russian Federation has warned of "consequences" following the launch of US-led strikes against Bashar al-Assad's regime in retaliation for a suspected chemical attack.

The overnight strikes hit three sites - one in Damascus and two in Homs - which US President Donald Trump said were "associated with the chemical weapon capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad".

"A pre-designed scenario is being implemented".

The action followed a week of threats of retaliation for a suspected chemical weapons attack on civilians in Douma, outside Damascus, where Syrian forces have always been battling rebels.

"Again, we are being threatened".

She added that the attacks were not about "regime change" or "intervening in a civil war", but were to "deter the use of chemical weapons" by the Syrian government.

In her condemnation, State Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said such anacrhists should be unveiled as soon as possible. Supreme Court Bar Association President Pir Kaleem has condemned the firing incident at the residence of the top judge.

Antov added that it was not acceptable to insult Russia's president: "Insulting the President of Russian Federation is unacceptable and inadmissible".

Russia's ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, said that the US, British and French airstrikes will not be left without consequences.

While Trump said that the objective of the U.S. actions is to "establish a strong deterrent against the production, spread, and use of chemical weapons", Antonov reminded that "the USA - the possessor of the biggest arsenal of chemical weapons - has no moral right to blame other countries".

The Bush administration stated the banner was meant to suggest the top of the Lincoln's 10-month mission within the Persian Gulf. Trump's tweets included the phrase "mission accomplished", one of the most infamous political remarks of the Bush era.

"We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences".

British Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron said the United Kingdom and France had joined in the attack.

"We had an early warning of the strike from the Russians and all military bases were evacuated a few days ago", the official said.
