On Monday, Sidney High School hosted a program created to help students see that their fellow students are not as different as they might believe, and that some of the "strangers" in the hallway might be future friends.
Trustees heard from the Royse City High School girls powerlifting and basketball teams, who were presented in front of the board and the crowd gathered at the regular meeting of the trustees on Monday night.
The program included games and exercises that encourage self-esteem and helped children see that each of them have obstacles in life and some of the road blocks in life are inconsequential.
"I definitely saw it as a safe space", said freshman Phyre Gonzales.

This year's Distinguished Schools program, which focuses on elementary schools, used data from the new California School Dashboard to rate the applicants, Burke said.
