The meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) holds today in Abuja.
"This means that with all hands on deck, we can avoid the risk of rancourous and conflict ridden intra-party elections which made majority of our leaders to clamour for one year elongation of tenure in the eve of 27 February, 2018, National Executive Council (NEC) meeting".
Since then, there have been a flurry of activities in the party, including the setting up of a Technical Committee, headed by the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, to advice on the issue.
A source within the party who does not want his name on prints told BusinessDay that the decision to reverse the tenure elongation was all politics adding that President Buhari was compelled to reverse the tenure elongation following strident opposition to it by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who the president is said to be heavily dependent on for his yet-to-be- declared reelection bid.

The State Department said Assad's government and its global backers "must be held accountable". Another humanitarian disaster for no reason whatsoever.
The forum urged members and supporters of the party to disregard reports in some quarters that governors elected on its platform were plotting to use the party's chairmen against Buhari.
The group called for the dissolution of executive committees of the party at all levels and the convocation of a national convention to elect new executives.
The explanation put to rest the possibility that the emergency NEC meeting might have contravened the provisions of the APC Constitution that stated that at least seven days' notice should be given to members to attend such meeting.
During the last NEC meeting, the APC spokesman said it was agreed that a technical committee between the National Assembly, the executive, and the party be set up to look at the proposals point by point as quickly as possible on the report of True Federalism Committee, to enable the president transmit it to the National Assembly for action.

However, this may no longer be necessary as sources has confirmed that Odigie-Oyegun has chose to step down.
On whether party congresses will now be considered, he said that the position of the NEC is for the NWC members to continue in acting capacity after the expiration of their tenure in June this year.
"That can only be a pointer to one thing: a decision to throw in the towel". We all know that he served as the National Chairman of the now defunct All Nigeria Peoples' Party (ANPP) when the President flew the Party's flag against Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003.
The group also denied that any state chairman is working with national chairman John Odigie-Oyegun against President Buhari.
