A former officer in Syria's chemical program, Adulsalam Abdulrazek, said Saturday the joint U.S., British, and French strikes hit "parts of but not the heart" of the program.

Nikki Haley, the USA ambassador to the United Nations, said Sunday that the United States will place more sanctions on Russian Federation this week related to its support for Syria's chemical weapons program.

The weekend's airstrikes in Syria and the country's seven-year-long civil war were also expected to be discussed.

Co-organizer Waseem Ramli said he's disappointed that Trudeau is supporting aggression with no evidence the Syrian government used chemical weapons. All three participants insisted the strikes were not aimed at toppling Syrian President Bashar al-Assad or intervening in the conflict.

Haley has been one of the strongest voices accusing Russian Federation of enabling the Syrian government in its use of chemical weapons in the civil war that is now in its seventh year.

"Assad knew that Russian Federation had its back, Assad knew that Russian Federation would cover for them at the United Nations, and Assad got reckless, and he used it in a way that was far more aggressive", she said. Russian Federation and fellow pro-Syrian government ally Iran slammed the US-led airstrikes for taking place before the OPCW could conduct its probe.

Although officials said the singular target was Assad's chemical weapons capability, his air force, including helicopters he allegedly has used to drop chemical weapons on civilians, were spared.

Donald Trump attempted to defend his use of the phrase "mission accomplished" in reference to Friday's US-led military strikes in Syria. The operation targeted three Syrian chemical weapons facilities - one in the capital of Damascus and two others near Homs, near the border with northern Lebanon. He said the strikes were unlikely to curb the government's ability to produce or launch new attacks. Syria has always denied any chemical use and accused rebels of fabricating the attack.

Bashar Jaafari, Syria's envoy to the United Nations, said the US, UK and France were "liars, spoilers and hypocrites" who exploited the United Nations "to pursue your policy of interference and colonialism". He said the USA knew of no civilians killed by allied missiles.

"In the U.S. administration there are specific people who it is possible to talk with", said Ermakov, head of the ministry's Department for Non-proliferation and Arms Control.

A global chemical warfare watchdog group, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, said its fact-finding mission would go as planned in Douma.

The action was in response to a recent deadly attack in the town of Douma. He criticized the USA and its allies for launching the strike without waiting for global inspectors to complete their visit to the area.
