Comm Games Organisers Explain Botched Closing Ceremony

Nigerian athletes recorded an impressive outing at the just concluded 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast Australia.

"I stand by the fact that we could only show the vision supplied to us on the night, and that whoever made the decision to not cut away to the athletes made a bad call".

Viewers were furious when the athletes were overlooked during the broadcast from Carrara Stadium, with the spotlight instead put on speeches and musical performances.

"Did we stuff it up? Yes".

"Unfortunately tonight, the organizing committee, together with the host broadcasters, just didn't get it right".

We should assess our success by participation and the way we conducted ourselves during the Games.

Event organisers were slammed for not focusing on the athletes.

They measure tiny dips in a star's brightness that could indicate a planetary body passing in front of the camera's line of sight. Described as being similar to Luke Skywalker's Tatooine, this planet orbits a pair of stars.

Closing ceremony fallout continues.

"If the athletes didn't come into the stadium until the broadcast time they would have been stuck in a field or a paddock somewhere", Beattie told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) on Monday.

He also took to Twitter to explain the decisions of the event organisers.

On Monday morning, a contrite Games chairman Peter Beattie apologised for the closing ceremony after athletes were left out of the broadcast, earning a scathing on-air broadside from the Channel Seven hosts.

"If we'd left that briefing room with any indication given to us that no athletes would feature, then of course we would have made other arrangements to capture those moments".

"You want to see the athletes come in".

"They made a decision not to have athletes enter the stadium they made the decision not to show the flagbearers", Griggs said on Seven on Sunday. "Again, we got that wrong", he wrote.

"I've never seen the stadium so empty halfway through a ceremony".

This is a clear distinction from the past competitions where settlement for entitlements was mostly an issue as they were either delayed or below the agreed figure, which may sometimes lead to protests from the aggravated athletes.

"We understand many people have been disappointed by tonight's closing ceremony and to be perfectly honest Jo, so have we been", Zempilas said.

"I am not interested in blaming anyone else", he said.

"With over half the athletes scheduled to depart the Gold Coast tomorrow, it is understandable that large numbers of athletes chose to depart the ceremony early, to prepare for their journey or attend their own team celebrations", it said.
