The explosion, which reportedly damaged the walls of the office, took place in Biratnagar - the industrial capital of Nepal, the Kathmandu Post reported.

None of the employee was present inside the building at the time of explosion. The Indian consulate office was shifted here after floods struck Nepal. The explosion took place around 8 pm last evening and caused a hole of around 1 foot by 1.5 feet in the compound wall towards the secluded rear of the office building complex, sources said.

Spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs Raveesh Kumar said Indian embassy in Kathmandu was in touch with the Nepal government over the incident and that the security authorities in that country were investigating the matter.

Security has been beefed up in the area following the blast. It, however, continued to function from Biratnagar ever since then.
