Bayern Munich has confirmed the end of the road for midfielder Arturo Vidal who sustained an injury during training on Sunday after advised to undergo surgery for a knee injury.

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes had hoped Vidal could be fit for their European clash against Real next Wednesday or the return leg in Madrid on May 1.

"Vidal underwent surgery on his knee yesterday, ruling him out for the rest of the season".

Vidal was sent off when Bayern met Real in last season's quarter-final second leg, which the Spaniards won 4-2 after extra time to clinch the tie 6-3 on aggregate on their way to winning the trophy.
