Police said that there had been 29 people on board the team bus, including the driver, and 14 were injured, including some in critical condition.

The RCMP continue their investigation into a deadly crash that they now say claimed the lives of fifteen people.

Among those killed were the team's head coach Darcy Haugan and captain Logan Schatz, Associated Press reported.

Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench, wearing a green and yellow Broncos team jersey, hugged people Saturday morning as they came to the Elger Petersen Arena in the Saskatchewan town to comfort each other and learn more. One tribute included a Kraft dinner box, which was a favorite meal of deceased forward Evan Thomas.

"Our national hockey family is a close one, with roots in nearly every town - small and big - across Canada".

The Broncos' head coach had played in the junior hockey league in the 1990s.

Among the dead was Jaxon Joseph, the 20-year-old son of former National Hockey League player Chris Joseph. "We offer our heartfelt condolences to Pittsburgh Penguins alumnus Chris Joseph, whose son, Jaxon, was among those who tragically passed away in the Humboldt Broncos bus accident".

“Best person ever, ” Locke said. "Down to earth, loved playing with the kids".

Forward Jaxon Joseph, who is the son of former National Hockey League player Chris Joseph, along with forward Logan Hunter and defensemen Stephen Wack, Adam Herold and Xavier Labelle were among the dead, according to family members and others.

BC vigil planned for Humboldt Broncos crash victims
Darren Opp, president of the Nipawin Hawks, who the Broncos were set to play against, said: "It's a awful accident, my God". Most of the players were from elsewhere in western Canada and they were put up by families in the small town of Humboldt.

The defenseman, 21, had played two seasons with the Broncos and "absolutely lived and breathed hockey", his cousin Alicia Wack said.

The identities of the dead have not yet been released by officials.

"It's overwhelming. It's been tough on everybody", Muench said. "This is going to be a long haul for us".

Norman Mattock, a longtime season ticket holder, said his neighbor housed player Morgan Gobeil. The defenceman was severely injured and remains in a serious but stable condition, Mattock said. Three players who stayed with the same family all died in the crash, he added.

"They're part of the families of these billets", he said.

The Broncos are a close-knit team who dyed their hair blond for the playoffs.

Conner Lukan, 21, of Slave Lake was on the bus as it travelled to a playoff game Friday in Nipawin.

Expressions of support poured in, much of it focused on a Twitter photo that showed three injured players grasping each other's hands while lying on hospital beds.

A vigil was scheduled for the hockey teams home ice Sunday night, and a makeshift stage and hundreds of chairs sat ready for the memorial.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the entire country was in shock and mourning as the details of the tragedy emerged. They were all in some way a part of the Humboldt Broncos.

"We are heartbroken and completely devastated", Garinger said.

"We got on that bus and trusted him with our lives, and both times he got us home safely", the post said.

"The biggest thing we can ask for is the support of thoughts and prayers", Kevin Garinger, president of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey club, said.

"It's an energy that spreads through the town with road signs saying "game tonight", tickets for sale everywhere", he said.

"The hockey community is so close, there's people all over the Metro Vancouver area that are feeling it", said Stebeck.

The bus driver for Charlie's Charters, the official carrier for more than a half-dozen hockey teams, spent a good deal of his time shuttling players between rinks, often in bad weather, said Kris Babbings, manager of the Kinistino Tigers, on Twitter.

The driver of the truck was uninjured and after initially being arrested was later released. Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner Curtis Zablocki said it was too early to state a cause for the crash.
