Employers in Wholesale & Retail Trade report some of the most optimistic hiring plans in more than 16 years as online retail continues to grow and the increase in distribution workers is expected to rise.

The Manpower Group Press release states that " Of Over 59,000 employers surveyed across 44 countries and territories, confidence levels have strengthened year-on-year in 25 countries, weakened in 13, and remained the same in five".

ManpowerGroup interviewed 58,000 employers in 43 countries and territories and noted that Croatia, where employers were surveyed for the first time, reported healthy hiring intentions based on unadjusted survey data.

The company said 35 per cent of the local employers it surveyed expect to hire in the April to June period, while two per cent expect cutbacks.

The latest data paints a picture of significant differences in hiring expectations across the country, both on a sector-by-sector basis and when compared regionally.

China reported the most downbeat hiring prospects in the region, with the net hiring outlook at 8 percent in the second quarter, ManpowerGroup said. ManpowerGroup interviewed over 59,000 employers globally and found that the job markets are upbeat in Taiwan, Japan, Hungary, and the United States, while Italy, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland presented weak outlooks.

Employers expect to increase staffing levels in all seven industry sectors during the upcoming quarter. The weakest outlooks are reported in Mining (+15%), Government Information (+14%) and Nondurable Goods Manufacturing (+12%). Sales and service occupations employ the most Richmond residents, while positions in business, finance and administration come up second.

ManpowerGroup said the net hiring outlook of the engineering/construction sector and the retail/wholesale sector stood at 26 percent, ahead of the transportation/warehousing/communications sector's 21 percent and the leisure/food/hospitality sector's 17 percent.

Meanwhile, the hiring scene is looking up in other countries, too. The Outlook for the East improves by 5 percentage points while hiring prospects are unchanged in the West and remain relatively stable in the North. When compared to the same period past year, the outlook remains upbeat despite notable declines in hiring expectations in crucial sectors such as Mining & Construction and Manufacturing.
