Suspect in Binghamton University student's killing formally charged with murder

Anderson a student at Binghamton University in NY, was found dead in jilted former lover and classmate Orlando Tercero's bed on March 9.

Binghamton police discovered the 22-year-old nursing student's body at Tercero's home on Oak Street last Friday.

After her death he fled the country to Nicaragua where he has dual citizenship, and was arrested by Nicaraguan authorities Tuesday.

Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell announced during the press conference that Anderson's cause of death was strangulation.

Last week Binghamton Police said they believe Tercero had left on a flight from JFK in NY to Nicaragua last Friday.

"We're going to do everything we can to make sure that he returns", he said. He was apprehended Tuesday at the Hospital de León and received medical attention for self-inflicted injuries, the Nicaragua National Police said in a press statement.

Now that Tercero has been charged, the process to secure the 22-year-old, who is still in Nicaragua, back into the United States has begun.

"The National Police received a request from USA authorities for the location and capture of the delinquent Orlando Enrique Tercero Moreno, 22 years old, who [entered] Nicaragua on Friday, March 9 at 3:55 p.m. from the US", Díaz said. The Broome County District Attorney's Office will now call on the United States State Department and the Nicaraguan Government to reach an agreement to extradite Tercero to the United States.

According to the report obtained by WBNG, Anderson believed Tercero, 22, was behind the slashing of all four of her vehicle tires after the two got into a spat the day prior at a party at his home. He angrily confronted her and shouted at her, supposedly angry at her for dating her on-and-off boyfriend.

According to the September police report, Anderson contacted police after she found all four of her tires apparently slashed after she'd attended a party at his home. "Haley stated that she tried to help Orlando by getting him into bed so he could rest, and then left his apartment".

The next morning she found her tires flat.

The indictment against Tercero will remain sealed until he is returned to the USA and formally arraigned.
