Chennai: Former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran and his elder brother Kalanithi Maran were discharged from the illegal telephone exchange case.

Watch CNBC-TV18's Jude Sannith caught up with former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran and asked what he had to say on the verdict.

The court said that everybody has been discharged as no case was made out.

Among others who were let off by the court today were BSNL general manager K Brahmanathan, former deputy general manager MP Velusamy and Dayanidhi's private secretary Gauthaman.

Special judge S Natarajan allowed the petitions filed by the Maran brothers and others seeking their discharge, holding that there was no prima facie case against them.

"The case is not even tried".

Earlier, in February, opposing the discharge petition filed by the Marans and others, the agency had insisted that it had enough evidence to prove the case against them.

The DMK suffered a rout in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, and Tamil Nadu's ruling AIADMK got a second straight term in 2016. The 764 high-speed data lines of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) were then allegedly used for doing business transactions involving Sun Network, a channel run by his brother Kalanithi Maran.
