The Jaguars needed to improve their offensive line in free agency and that's exactly what they plan to do Wednesday when the new league year officially begins.

Speculation had linked the Panthers guard to the New York Giants because of general manager Dave Gettleman, who held the same role with Carolina when Norwell signed in 2014. However, in the end, the Bears have ultimately turned to the free agent market - which means not giving up running back Jordan Howard - in order to help soon-to-be second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.

The team reached a record-setting contract agreement with Carolina Panthers guard Andrew Norwell during the NFL's legal tampering period, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Giants need some magic to get out of the situation they are in with their cap if they want to sign any free agents, even their own.

Norwell did not allow a sack, was Pro Football Focus' third-highest graded guard, and the top-graded pass-blocking guard in 2017.

The expected deal will guarantee Norwell $30 million and on average make him the NFL's most well-paid guard. He was ranked as the 40th-best offensive tackle in the league.

While such an injury occurred as a result of his only catch of the season, the 24-year-old tallied just the lone reception, which went for 17 yards.
