The National School Walkout is a response to the Parkland shooting, and it is a protest for gun legislation.
"We had an incredible session, but probably the most important thing we did this year is we listened to the families of Parkland", said Gov. Rick Scott, who joined legislative leaders at an end-of-session ceremony.
Florida lawmakers approved the legislation earlier this week with the state House voting 67-50 to approve the bill and the state Senate passing it by a 20-18 vote. Scott's office announced that the Republican governor will sign both bills on Sunday.
The White House plans to release more details about the plan Sunday night, almost a month after the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, which left 17 students and staff dead. The law's controversial "guardian program" will allow some school employees and teachers to carry handguns with law enforcement training and if a school district agrees to participate in the program.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Michael Jordan's legendary North Carolina NCAA championship team
Preview: The defending national champion Tar Heels looked like they might be able to sneak a No. 1 seed with 10 losses. A year ago, they made the Elite 8 as a No. 11 seed, and they've handled the spotlight that follow that all season.
Only a few hours after the Governor of Florida signed a new law which raised the purchase age for firearms from 18 to 21 years old, the National Rifle Association filed a lawsuit against the plan, telling a federal court that the law "totally eviscerates" the Second Amendment rights of people between the ages of 18 and 21. "He's not bringing the families up [to Tallahassee] just for a discussion".
"To the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, you made your voices heard", Scott said.
The rampage by a former student with mental health issues and armed with an AR-15-style rifle left 17 students and teachers dead on Valentine's Day at the Parkland high school near Fort Lauderdale.
From Arizona to Washington, young people walked out of schools in support of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High survivors who mobilized behind an emotional movement calling for a ban on weapons such as the one used to kill their friends and teachers.

Melrose will raise its £7.3bn offer for GKN this week in an effort to clinch the hostile takeover of the FTSE 100 engineer. Melrose has kept the cash part of the deal the same but raised the equity part from 1.49 new Melrose shares.
Scott signed the bill later in the day.
The voucher program is included in a sweeping education bill that also includes a requirement that all Florida schools must display the words "In God We Trust".
The administration also is urging all states to pass risk protection orders, as Florida recently did, allowing law enforcement officers to remove firearms from individuals who are considered a threat to themselves or others and to prevent them from purchasing new guns, Bremberg said. "Please veto the funding and language in the budget that provides for arming school personnel". Instead, he referred to a statement issued last month by Superintendent Tommy Chang in which he said arming teachers "is utterly illogical and will only result in making our students and teachers less safe". No flexibility in renegotiating Iran deal with Europe
Trump has said that the US will leave the Iranian deal if an agreement to substantially improve it is not reached by May 12. Trump in January set a 120-day deadline for U.S. lawmakers and European allies to "fix" the deal or face a U.S. exit.
