Delhi Trade Bandh: Shops shut down to protest sealing

On a day city traders observed a bandh, AAP and Congress reconciled their political differences to find a way to tide over the crisis resulting from the ongoing sealing drive.

While Kejriwal previously assured them of all help and even wrote to PM Narendra Modi, he has now called for an all-party meeting in a letter which read that 'there is a need for us to rise above party lines to find a solution to the sealing issue.' He has also requested that only three members of each party attend the meeting 'so that we can come to a fruitful solution'.

The BJP today made a decision to boycott an all-party meet called by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tomorrow to find a solution to problems being faced by traders because of an ongoing sealing drive in the city, even as the AAP slammed state BJP chief Manoj Tiwari for touring overseas at a time when city traders were facing problems.

Civic bodies have undertaken the sealing drive initiated by a Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee on December 2017 a year ago.

Buhari throws out amended Electoral Act
In the letter, the president said the amendments infringe on the rights of the Independent National Electoral Commission . The bill provides for the Presidential election to come last after National Assembly and Governorship elections.

The CAIT, which has been calling out to halt the sealing drive, ever since it began, has said, the recent sealing operations conducted at Amar Colony, Lajpat Nagar, is one such example, where the sealing has been undertaken, by "violating the DMC Act".

The all-party meeting ended up being an AAP and Congress meeting, with the BJP boycotting. The traders are suffering a lot due to the collusion and fake fight between the BJP and the AAP.

Maken also attacked the BJP for boycotting the meet.

"I wish BJP had also participated in the interest of Delhi's traders", Kejriwal later tweeted, describing it as a very good meeting.

Kamal Haasan expresses grief for Theni forest fire victims
Sources said a couple of officials deputed to make enquiries at the group's office at Palavakkam found it closed. The team included 25 women and three children, according to Theni District Collector Mariam Pallavi Baldev.

Both leaders also said it was unfortunate the BJP did not attend the meeting.

BJP had earlier expressed apprehensions about the meeting, with MLA Vijender Gupta even advising other participants to wear helmets.

"The then Centre and state government under the Congress working on its past strategy to suppress the issue, brought out an under developed Master Plan-2021 which though stopped the sealing at that time but soon complicated the situation to the extent that in 2017 Supreme Court actively re-intervened", he said in the statement. The meeting lasted nearly for an hour and was fruitful, Maken said. He also raised the issue of the pending notification of 351 roads. AAP might pass a resolution in favour of traders in the assembly budget session and send it to the Centre for consideration.
