President Donald Trump arrived for his first medical checkup as president at Walter Reed military hospital on Friday, undergoing a physical examination amid suggestions in a recent book and by his detractors that he's mentally unfit.

Several in Washington have speculated on the President's mental health since his time on the campaign trail, but trained mental health professionals have officially refused to do so. His EKG, chest X-ray, echocardiogram and blood sugar were normal.

According to the recently published book Fire and Fury, by author Michael Wolff, the listing of Mr Trump as 6ft 3ins in 2016 was done to avoid him "having a body mass index that would label him as obese".

Former Cardinals coach Bruce Arians picks Falcons-Steelers Super Bowl
He picked the Atlanta Falcons, the reigning NFC champs who lost last year's Super Bowl after having a 28-3 lead. Since that time, the once high-functioning Philadelphia offense has slowed to the rate of a leaking faucet.

The public report from Trump's exam on Friday is also likely to be short and sweet, said George Annas, head of the Center for Health Law, Ethics and Human Rights at Boston University School of Public Health.

Trump was 70 when he took office on January 20, 2017, making him the oldest person ever sworn into the nation's highest office.

Dr. Ronny Jackson, a Navy rear admiral who is the president's official physician and director of the White House medical unit, is coordinating the exam. Jackson provided care for President Barack Obama, conducting and supervising the last of three physicals Obama had during his eight years in office.

Donald Trump's lawyer files lawsuit against BuzzFeed for publishing Russia dossier
When pressed by the committee, Simpson's lawyer Joshua Levy suggested it would be unsafe to do so. The release of the transcript does not, however, break any laws, as Trump suggests it might.

Citing Medicare guidelines for patients over 66 years of age, the experts say (pdf) Jackson "should include an evaluation of the 71-year-old president's neurological health, including cognitive and mental health functions".

However, rumours of possible 2020 bids for the White House continue.
