Met Éireann says that this evening and tonight, Storm Fionn will bring very strong westerly winds to Galway with wind speeds of 65 to 80 km/h and gusts of up to 120 km/hr.
The Met Office issued a yellow warning for ice, snow and strong winds across the United Kingdom earlier today.
The orange alert, which lets the public know "to prepare", will affect counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork and Kerry.
From 11pm tonight, the entire country will be under a snow and ice warning as temperatures plummet.
There will also be a risk of hail and thunder and snowfall is expected to be greatest in the northern and western areas, particularly on higher ground.
Temperatures will remain low throughout the night.

A second status yellow warning for wind came into effect at 11am this monrning until Wednesday at 3am for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.
"Winds will reach gale force along the Atlantic Seaboard with some severe gusts and very high seas as well there".
"Along with the strong winds, a spell of heavy rain can also be expected, which could also be combined with a temporary thaw of lying snow in the north".

The company said the settlement program, established as part of the class action related to the spill, is approaching its closure. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill in April 2010 killed 11 workers and gushed almost 5m barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.
These conditions will continue into tomorrow night and the national forecaster has suggested checking in to see if there are further weather warnings issued.
The advisory is in place from 9pm on Monday until 9am on Thursday.
