Samsung announced that it has started mass production of its 2nd-generation 8-gigabyte (GB) High Bandwidth Memory-2 (HBM2) with the fastest data transmission speed on the market today. Aquabolt gets the job done at 1.2V. A single Aquabolt package offers 307 Gbps data bandwidth, which is 9.6 times faster than an 8GB GDDR5 chip that provides 32 Gbps; using four Aquabolts will leave you with a system capable of 1.2 Tbps bandwidth, according to Samsung.
Aside from improvements in bandwidth speeds, Samsung Electronics' new HBM2 module is also fitted with an "additional protective layer" at the bottom of the package to increase its physical strength. The new hardware, dubbed Aquabolt, is intended for use in next-generation supercomputers, AI solutions and graphics system. Moreover, Samsung will continue to offer leading-edge HBM2 solutions, to succeed its 1st-generation HBM2, Flarebolt, and its 2nd-generation, Aquabolt, as it further expands the market over the next several years.
Passports no longer your address proof!
This would mean that the new passports will no longer be useful as a proof of address for various applications. The ministry is also considering some changes in the colour of passports.
Aimed to be used for supercomputing, AI, and graphics processing, the new 8GB HMB2 uses eight 8Gb HBM2 dies, connected in a vertical stack by using over 5,000 TSVs (Through Silicon Via's) per die. Using that many TSVs can cause collateral clock skew although Samsung was able to minimize the skew and boost chip performance in the process.
An official from Samsung Electronics said, "With the latest mass production, Samsung Electronics is the only company in the industry that supplies the HBM2 DRAM chip". Furthermore, the firm's engineers implemented a design with an increased number of thermal bumps between the dies - providing greater thermal control.
NFL Playoffs, Divisional Round Schedule 2018: Games On Today 1/13
On the offense overall this season: "I think that's certainly something that we have to look at and evaluate this offseason". A 42-yard interference call that opened the game was followed by Jay Ajayi fumbling the ball away at the Atlanta 33.
We don't know when this super-fast HBM2 will begin appearing on new graphics cards, but I'm sure we might see something new at NVIDIA's own GPU Technology Conference in a few months time. A release date hasn't been mentioned, Samsung unveiled its predece.
European Union punishes Nigel Farage by docking his MEP pay
Farage, who has been an MEP for 18 years, has one of the worst attendance records at the parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg. But he hit out at the "dishonesty of our political class" and said he feared a second referendum may well be inevitable.
