"The Florida coastline that borders my district is all military testing and training ranges, where they have live fire exercises at super sonic speeds which is a critically risky place to be putting oil rigs", Dunn said. "As a result of discussion with Gov. Scott and his leadership, I am removing Florida from consideration for any new oil and gas platforms".

U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Longboat Key, tweeted his support for Scott and Florida's congressional delegation Tuesday and their opposition to drilling.

"As a result of our interest in making sure that there's no drilling here, Florida will be taken off the table, "Scott said January 9th, after meeting with U.S. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke in Tallahassee".

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said the plan was part of a "new path for energy dominance in America" and prompted stiff opposition from governors from both parties on the coasts. More flippantly, the filmmaker Michael Moore had already threatened to launch a "monster" fracking operation off the coast of Mar-a-Lago, the site of Donald Trump's Florida resort.

Almost three-quarters of Florida's representatives in the U.S. House, including a majority of the state's Republican members of Congress, have written a forceful, sensible letter criticizing the Trump administration's attempt to weaken offshore-drilling regulations. That's the same Rick Scott who banned his state's employees from using the term "climate change", which is ironic because climate change will be the long-term result of the USA drilling and using more oil, causing sea level rises that will inundate more of Florida.

Just a pol asking a favor, and the Trump administration granting it.

The Trump administration reversed plans to include Florida in an offshore drilling proposal announced last week.

Gov. Scott rejoiced in the decision.

Gov Scott is reportedly planning to run for an open US Senate seat. "Our 'local and state voice" is firmly opposed to any and all offshore drilling.

U.S. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said the plan would open up 90 percent of the country's outer continental shelf to oil and gas leasing, including an area off the coasts of OR and Washington.

"I don't want your kids ever to fight on foreign shores for a resource we have here", he said.

Environmental groups casted similar doubts.

But in 2011, Scott walked his support of then-presidential candidate Michele Bachmann after the Minnesota Republican proposed drilling for oil in Florida's Everglades.

GOP Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire told reporters "of course" he opposed drilling off the New Hampshire coast.
