Google Duo Users can Make Calls to Smartphone Without Duo Installed

Google Duo will Now Let You Call to Android Users who haven't installed the App

Google Duo lets you make calls to contacts who don't even have the app installed

It appears to be a result of Google Duo merging into Play Services, although there is no official confirmation on that front. When you see your phone contacts, it will show a Duo symbol indicating that these people have a compatible handset and they will be able to receive the video call without the app.

If you make video calls on your Android device, then you're probably familiar with Duo, Google's app that was designed exactly for that (basically a Hangouts replacement).

Whilst on stage last night, Nicole also paid tribute to her Big Little Lies co-stars, among them Reese Witherspoon , 41. Actress and humanitarian Angelina, 42 , wowed in a white Ralph and Russo dress, which was covered with feathers.

Reports, however, say this ability to make Duo calls to even those who aren't using the app is now restricted to Android users. Most people didn't have it installed and even if you had it, it was tough to place a call to those on the other end. It is said that this feature works the same way it does with regular Duo calls including Knock-Knock.

For those interested in the intricacies, it's App Preview Messaging that's making all this possible - it is a Google Play Services feature that was launched back in 2016. This also works with audio-only calls.

Google Duo and Allo are the two new apps the company revealed two years ago. It's not clear if Google has done that yet. The biggest difference is what the recipient sees after the video chat is over. Users who received a call from a Duo user but do not have Duo installed themselves can answer the call by dragging the phone icon up.

In the latest update of Duo, Google brings some exciting features. The option to install Duo pops up after the call has ended, and so does the option to block the caller from calling ever again. On the other side, this could be annoying for the ones who don't like video-calling and get video calls without even having the app in the first place.
