President Donald Trump is scheduled to have a medical exam on Friday, his first since taking office almost a year ago.

President Donald Trump shakes hands with Dr. Ronny Jackson after his annual physical exam at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland on January 12, 2018.

"The President is in excellent health", said Jackson after he conducted the first physical exam of the 45th President of the United states.

As expected, Trump's exam did not include a psychiatric evaluation.

The White House announced earlier this week that Jackson would take the unusual step of answering questions about the president's exam during the daily briefing next Tuesday.

Some psychiatrists have raised concerns about the president's mental fitness for office, pointing to his unpredictable Twitter feed, among other indicators.

"He doesn't look healthy", NY internist Daryl Isaacs told The Washington Post in a report released Friday.

But he said the President's comments were "not shocking", adding: "They're not even really surprising".

The examination at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre lasted several hours and was likely to measure things like Trump's blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, heart rate and weight. "Confusing Trump's behavior with mental illness unfairly stigmatizes those who are truly mentally ill, underestimates his considerable cunning, and misdirects our efforts at future harm reduction".

Donald Trump completed his first physical exam as president on Friday.

But there's no guarantee Jackson will provide a comprehensive report, because undergoing a physical is voluntary for a president and Trump can pick and choose what the public hears.
