The Punjab and Haryana High Court Thursday granted bail to Vikas Barala in the case of stalking and attempted abduction of Varnika Kundu.

Barala, a student of law, has been confined in Chandigarh's Burail jail since August 9, 2017.

"No application was filed on behalf of the prosecution alleging that the accused had made any attempt to influence anybody", said Vinod Ghai, the counsel for Vikas. It was also argued that the accused belonged to a well-connected political family and it was possible that he may use his clout to influence the trial of the case, if released on bail.
